I just couldn't figure out how to complete this illustration. Then by mistake I coloured in a wrong layer in Photoshop and the above image appeared. I like it!

Roommate galore..

I was lucky to sketch a roommate of mine, when he prepared his lunch for the next day. Later on he took on a dramatic pose, for the fun of it.

Life Drawing

Some sketches from tonight's life drawing class. It's terribly difficult!

A week or so ago I was on a railway-station and saw the most beautiful girl. I had my sketchbook with me and felt compelled to sketch her, but I was to shy at the same time to approach her about it. So I glanced at her every now and then, while quickly trying to catch her on paper. The next time I'll try to sum up the courage to approach her:)

Solaris

Now that the illustration is finished I'm actually not that satisfied with it...I think I raised the bar a bit too high. The illustration keeps lacking a certain 'unity'. On to the next time!

Breath of Heaven

I recently discovered a beautiful Christmas song, 'Breath of Heaven', written by Amy Grant and covered by Oleta Adams among others. It tells the nativity story from Maria's point of view and deals with the struggles she goes through. I thought it would make for a nice illustration. My 'Solaris' illustration is almost finished (I'll post it soon), so I made some sketches for my new project 'Breath of Heaven'.

Two of my roommates yesterday, were embedded in a heavy theological discussion. Luckily I was around.

The above sketches are from a life-drawing club I attended. The model had the most beautiful eyes and a 'classical look', all of which I tried desperately:) to capture on paper. The face turned out alright, but I wasn't quite able to draw her full figure the way I intended... I noticed I had a tendency to draw the figure the way I envisioned it in my head; instead of observing the model accurately.



This sketch will become part of the earlier mentioned 'Solaris' illustration. I drew and inked her today, and added some color and shadow very quickly to see what it would do. So more to come!
