As it turns out my blog is mentioned on the official Alec Severin-website (see links.) Wow, I feel honored. I've met mr. Severin a few times on comic-markets and besides being a great artist (his originals are stunning!), he's also very friendly. These encounters make ofcourse cherished memories.

Wow, today I saw 'James and the Giant Peach' with the musicalscore by Randy Newman. And as always I was so enchanted by his music. I read in a review his music was described as having a 'colourful palette'. Well, that's one way to put it. His gentle (film)music is to touching and I always get mesmerised by it. I start dreaming of people and places and situations (really!) while listening to his music. I wonder off and forget everything around me. It's just so moving. Here are the lyrics of his song 'Same Girl':

I'm not a music expert but his piano playing is só subtle, and sad and beautiful and colourful all at the same time and well I could keep on going... I want to make a caricature/portret of him, kind of as a hommage to this great artist. I'll try to post it soon.

Rien Poortvliet deserves all the acclaim there is to get! This Dutch(!) artist is unrivaled in his wildlife art. One of my most treasured books however is his depiction of the life of Jezus Christ. The book is entitled "Hij was één van ons" ("He was one of us").

A couple of years back it was my plan to study horses, drawing them from real life. It was quite a challenge! I never practised very much and quit after a while...it's still a good idea, but for another time.

I went away this weekend with some people of the studentsclub to Zeeland (it's on the buttom of the Netherlands). They were great models.

time to practise!

At last, during this vacation I was able to practise at painting. The Donnatella Versace caricature isn't finished yet, but I'll try to complete her picture when I have time. Anyway I'm so happy to have spend some time painting!

old sketches 2

I remember when I sketched the girl, I fell in love with her dreamy, sad looking eyes.
Anyway, when I have the time, I want to post some anatomy studies; studying anatomy and figure drawing is what I love most of all. So be prepared: there'll be arms, feet, necks, hands, legs, backs, shoulders...and here's an old one to start with.

Regretting the fact that I've had so little time the last few weeks to draw anything, it annoyes me when drawings don't turn out the way I want them to. But enough complaints..better luck next time.

...if all goes well, this Friday, I'll do some painting again (after all my 'tentamens' and a whole bunch of other commitments...I'm soo looking forward to it!!)
